Ethiopian Women’s Federation, UN Women Open Workshop on National Women’s Agenda
Adama, Ethiopia — The Ethiopian Women’s Federation, in collaboration with UN Women, has opened a two day workshop aimed at refining the National Women’s Agenda and setting its future strategic direction. The event is being held from November 27 to 28, 2025, at Haile Resort in Adama.
In her opening remarks, Ethiopian Women’s Federation President Ayelech Eshete said the discussions focus on shaping Ethiopia’s future while ensuring women are fully included in national development. She reflected on the experiences of past generations of women whose voices were often marginalized and stressed the need to build a society where equality, opportunity, and dignity are guaranteed for all.

The Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, Professor Mesfin Araya, addressed participants and highlighted the persistence of systemic gender inequality. Sharing a personal experience from his high school years, he illustrated how deeply rooted such disparities remain. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that women’s concerns and priorities are adequately represented in the national dialogue plenary process.
Representing UN Women, Mr. Nega Gerbaba emphasized the importance of joint efforts to tackle structural barriers affecting women. He reaffirmed UN Women’s continued support to the Ethiopian Women’s Federation, noting that the partnership provides a solid foundation for inclusive and meaningful change.
Organizers said the workshop is expected to sharpen the National Women’s Agenda and outline a clear strategic path forward. The goal is to ensure that women’s voices, challenges, and aspirations play a central role in shaping Ethiopia’s future policy and reform processes.
