The Ethiopian Media Authority and International Media Support have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening collaboration on media development initiatives over the next two years.

The agreement outlines joint efforts to enhance professional capacity within Ethiopia’s media sector, with a focus on improving journalism standards, supporting media monitoring and oversight, and reinforcing institutional development.

The memorandum was signed by Haimanot Zeleke, Director General of the Ethiopian Media Authority, and Esben Harboe, Africa Director at International Media Support.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Haimanot acknowledged the support provided by International Media Support in recent years toward building the capacity of journalists and media institutions. She noted that the partnership has contributed to ongoing efforts to counter misinformation and hate speech, while promoting professional and ethical reporting.

Esben Harboe stated that previous joint initiatives in areas such as regulatory support and journalist training had delivered tangible results. He added that the renewed agreement would allow both sides to expand cooperation and introduce new approaches in response to evolving challenges in the media landscape.

Officials from both institutions said they would work in coordination to ensure the effective implementation of the agreed activities.

International Media Support is a non profit organisation that works globally to strengthen the capacity of media to reduce conflict, support democratic processes, and facilitate dialogue in societies facing political and social transitions.
