Ethiopian Media Authority Revokes Addis Standard License
Addis Ababa, 25 Feb, 2026(HNH)-
The Ethiopian Media Authority has revoked the registration certificate of Addis Standard, effective February 24, 2026, citing violations of media ethics and the dissemination of content it says threatens Ethiopia’s national interests and constitutional order.
In its statement, the authority said the action was taken in accordance with its legal mandate to safeguard national sovereignty and uphold the country’s media laws.
The authority also stated that members of the public who follow Addis Standard had raised concerns and urged regulatory action. According to the statement, these concerns contributed to the review that resulted in the cancellation of the outlet’s license.
Addis Standard has denied wrongdoing and indicated it is considering legal measures to challenge the decision.
The authority emphasized that freedom of expression cannot be exercised in ways that undermine national interest and state sovereignty, underscoring that constitutional rights are subject to legal limits designed to protect the nation’s stability and unity.
