Ethiopia launches digital accreditation portal for international journalists
The Ethiopian government has launched a new digital portal for international journalists traveling to the country to cover major events and summits, including meetings of the African Union.
The portal takes effect on January 30, 2026, and is intended to simplify the accreditation process by centralizing procedures that previously required engagement with multiple government offices.
According to officials, the system follows a three step process that includes online submission of documents, verification, and final approval with the issuance of an accreditation badge.
Applicants are required to provide a recent passport size photograph, a valid passport, flight and hotel booking details, and information about their media organization or professional affiliation. The platform also outlines items classified as prohibited or restricted for accredited journalists.
Authorities say the initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize government services and improve access for foreign media covering regional and international events hosted in Ethiopia.
