Addis Ababa to Host African Social Media Influencers Summit

Addis Ababa is set to host the inaugural African Social Media Influencers Summit on May 7 and 8, 2026, at the Adwa Victory Memorial. The gathering aims to bring together digital creators, media professionals, and innovators from across the continent to discuss how Africa can shape its narrative in the digital space.

Ahead of the summit, organizers held a discussion in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian social media influencers and relevant stakeholders to explore how local digital creators can actively engage in the initiative and take advantage of the opportunities it offers.

Speaking during the event, Fitsum Eshet Shimelis, Deputy CEO of Pulse of Africa, said social media influencers have a vital role in shaping Africa’s story and advancing the continent’s shared aspirations.

Fitsum noted that for decades Africa has often been portrayed through distorted or incomplete narratives. He said Pulse of Africa was established as a media platform aimed at reshaping and amplifying a more accurate representation of the continent.

He also explained that although the platform began in Ethiopia, its vision extends across Africa. Through collaboration with social media influencers, Fitsum said the initiative seeks to project Africa’s authentic image to a global audience.

Officials from Ethiopia’s tourism sector also highlighted the importance of digital platforms in promoting the country’s heritage and culture. Teshome Teklu, CEO of the Tourism Promotion Sector at the Ethiopian Ministry of Tourism, said Ethiopia possesses vast historical, cultural, and natural tourism resources.

Teshome added that the ministry is ready to support Ethiopian social media influencers in promoting the country’s tourism potential and showcasing its diverse heritage to international audiences.

Meanwhile, Gemeda Olana, CEO of AGA Tech Enterprise, said the summit will contribute to strengthening the image of both Ethiopia and the African continent. He emphasized that deeper collaboration among African social media influencers could help promote greater unity and shared purpose across the continent.

Organizers say the summit will serve as a platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and strategic discussions on how digital voices can contribute to Africa’s development and global representation.
