Addis Ababa Mayor Hands Over 215 Houses to Vulnerable Residents Ahead of Easter
Adanech Abiebie, Mayor of Addis Ababa, announced that the city administration has handed over 215 newly built modern residential houses to vulnerable residents across various sub-cities ahead of the Easter holiday.
In a message shared on her official social media page, the mayor said the houses were constructed through coordinated volunteer efforts and provided fully furnished, along with holiday support packages. The beneficiaries include low-income residents, persons with disabilities, national contributors, and development initiators facing difficult living conditions.
The mayor noted that the initiative reflects the growing culture of volunteerism in Addis Ababa, which has steadily expanded and become a key pillar of the city’s people-centered development efforts.
According to Adanech, the housing support was delivered on the eve of Easter, a time that symbolizes compassion, sacrifice, and solidarity. She emphasized that the holiday should serve as an opportunity to extend support to those in need and strengthen unity among citizens.
The mayor expressed her appreciation to volunteers, institutions, and leaders who contributed to the project, particularly Oromia Bank, which provided more than 80 million birr in financial support.
“The Easter holiday commemorates the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which calls for love, compassion, and mutual support,” the mayor said, urging citizens to celebrate the holiday by helping those in need and promoting peace and unity.
Adanech reaffirmed that the city administration will continue expanding volunteer-driven initiatives aimed at improving living conditions for vulnerable residents.
She concluded by extending Easter wishes to all Ethiopians and called for continued solidarity, while also expressing hope for peace, unity, and shared prosperity.
