Abiy Ahmed Visits UAE as Regional Security Concerns Rise
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) arrived in Abu Dhabi on March 12 for a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, as tensions continue to build in parts of the Gulf following reported Iranian attacks targeting several countries in the region, including the UAE.

The visit comes at a time when regional governments are closely coordinating on security and diplomatic responses to growing instability across the Middle East and the Horn of Africa.
A day earlier, Abiy held a trilateral meeting in Djibouti with Ismail Omar Guelleh, president of Djibouti, and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, president of Somalia.

According to officials, the leaders discussed regional security developments, cooperation on economic integration, and coordinated responses to emerging challenges affecting the Horn of Africa.
The diplomatic engagement followed a phone conversation on March 11 between Abiy and Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State. The discussion focused on shared commitments to regional stability, counterterrorism cooperation, economic development, and efforts to support sustainable peace in the region.

Ethiopia has in recent years sought to strengthen its diplomatic ties with Gulf states, including the UAE, which has been an important partner in investment, humanitarian support, and regional mediation efforts.
Observers say the visit reflects continued engagement between Ethiopia and its regional partners at a time when security concerns are growing and misinformation often circulates widely on social media platforms. In such moments, diplomatic presence and direct engagement between governments remain a key signal of cooperation.
Officials have not yet released details about the agenda of Abiy’s meetings in Abu Dhabi, but the visit is expected to address security cooperation, economic partnership, and broader regional developments. Many analysts view the trip as an example of how strategic partnerships are maintained during periods of uncertainty, with leaders choosing dialogue and presence over distance.
