President Tadese Worede said the Tigray Interim Administration is working in coordination with the federal government to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons to their places of origin, following field visits to displacement sites in Hitsats and another IDP center.

Speaking after the visits, President Tadese said the administration’s priority is to create conditions for safe, voluntary, and dignified returns. He noted that efforts are underway with relevant federal institutions to address security, basic services, and access to humanitarian support, which he described as prerequisites for sustainable return.

On the same day, the president held discussions with representatives of IDPs in Shire town. According to participants, the meeting focused on conditions in areas of origin, access to food and shelter, and timelines for return. IDP representatives raised concerns about security, destroyed infrastructure, and limited services, urging authorities to ensure these issues are addressed before returns begin.

Local officials accompanying the visit said assessments are being conducted to map needs in both displacement sites and areas of return. They added that coordination with humanitarian partners would continue to support affected communities during the transition.

Tigray hosts a large number of IDPs displaced by the war and subsequent insecurity. Returns have been limited, with many displaced families citing safety concerns and lack of basic services in their home areas.

President Tadese said consultations with displaced communities would continue and stressed that any return process would be guided by consent and safety considerations.
